The Week of 4/6

Dear Families!

Welcome back from spring break! It was so wonderful to see all of our friends return to the classroom this week. The children arrived with big smiles and plenty of stories to share. We spent the first few days reconnecting and getting back into our school routines and expectations.

Our New Water Unit

This week, we officially dove into our new Water Study! Water is a fascinating topic for preschoolers because it is such a constant, tactile part of their daily lives. We began with simple observations: Where do we find water? What does it feel like? How does it move?

We also revisited the importance of handwashing and created “How-To” guides for brushing teeth—all while learning how to conserve one of our most precious resources.

Next Week: How do we use water?

As we move into next week, the children will begin investigating the many ways water supports us and the world around us. Our classroom will transform into a “Water Lab,” where students will practice pouring, measuring, and observing how water magically takes the shape of its container. We will also discover how water is present in art/creating art, and the role it plays in the kitchen.

Finally, we’ll expand our investigation into “Flow and Force.” By using pipes, funnels, and ramps, we will see if we can challenge gravity and make water travel uphill. (Spoiler: It’s much harder than it looks!)

Home Connections

If you want to keep the investigation going this weekend, here are a few simple ways to explore water at home:

Water Detectives: Take a walk around your neighborhood. Can you find water in nature? Look for puddles, dew on the grass, or even clouds in the sky.

The “Invisible” Water Experiment: Put a small amount of water in a cup and mark the level with a marker or piece of tape. Place it on a sunny windowsill and check it every day. Ask your child: “Where is the water going?” (This is a great introduction to evaporation!).

Lunch with the Firefighters

We have a very exciting event coming up on Tuesday, April 7th! One of our team members and Coronado parent, Kirsten Taylor, graciously purchased a “Lunch with the Fire Truck” experience at our silent auction and has kindly offered to share this event with both preschool classes.

The firefighters will be here from 10:45 AM – 11:45 AM for the children to explore the truck and enjoy a special meal!

Kirsten will be providing pizza, fruit snacks, Goldfish crackers, and juice boxes. Lunch Options: If your child does not wish to participate in the pizza lunch, please ensure you either:

  1. Pack a cold lunch for them as usual, OR
  2. Order a hot lunch through the school cafeteria.

Thank you for your continued support and for sharing your curious learners with us. Have a wonderful, relaxing weekend!

Warmly,

The Preschool Team
