Our Year Together

(2026-27)

Dear Coronado Families,

We are so excited to welcome you and your little ones to Coronado Preschool for a wonderful year filled with learning, laughter, and growth.

To help us create a safe, smooth, and happy environment for everyone, please take a moment to read through these helpful guidelines for the upcoming school year.

Parking: Please park in the school parking lot. For the safety of all our students, please use designated pedestrian crosswalks when walking through the lot.

Free Breakfast (Before school): Free breakfast is available to all Jeffco students, including preschoolers!

Arrival: Enter through the door just north of the front entrance and head directly to the cafeteria.
Requirements: Parents must remain with their child during breakfast.
Transition: After eating, exit through the same door and line up outside our classroom. You will sign your child in outside the classroom door.

Drop-Off Procedures (8:15 AM): Doors open at 8:15 AM, which is when staff supervision begins. We do not offer a “soft start,” so please remain with your child until doors open.

Drop-off is located on the south side of the building. Please arrive a few minutes early and complete the following:

Sign-In: Sign your child in on the sheet (located on the small metal stand). This is a state requirement.
Sunscreen: Initial the sign-in sheet daily to confirm you applied sunscreen to your child before drop-off (state requirement).
Snack Basket: Help your child place their separate, labeled snack into the basket. Snacks cannot require refrigeration.
Mondays Only: Help your child file their Friday Folder and place their laundered bedding bin in the designated area. Bedding must be brought in a 16-quart plastic container with a lid containing crib/toddler-sized bedding only (no twin-size bedding, please).

Goodbyes & Separations: Give your child a quick hug and have them line up along the wall. When the doors open, encourage them to walk into class independently. If your child struggles with separation:

Give them a quick, reassuring squeeze and encouraging words.
Remind them they are safe and that you will return for them.
Make your goodbye brief and exit promptly. Prolonged goodbyes often increase anxiety, and most children settle in within minutes once class begins.

What to Bring (and What to Leave at Home):

Daily Backpack: Must contain a labeled water bottle (water only), and a gallon Ziploc bag with a full change of clothes (shirt, pants, underwear, socks).
Pull-Up Support: If your child regularly requires changing, include a labeled Ziploc with a few pull-ups (no diapers) and a pack of wipes. Do not send whole packages of pull-ups, as space is limited.
Lovey: One small comfort item (up to 12 inches) for nap time may stay inside their bedding container Monday through Friday.
Toys: Please leave all toys from home at home unless requested for a special activity.
State Prohibitions: Per Colorado state guidelines, students may not carry hand sanitizer, chapstick, lotion, or diaper rash cream in their backpacks.
Please label all personal items – including clothing, backpacks, lunch boxes, water bottles, and bedding containers – with your child’s first and last name so misplaced items find their way home!

Learning: In our classroom, learning is an active, joyful adventure! We believe that play is a young child’s most meaningful work. Alongside structured classroom activities, storytelling, music, and outdoor discovery, children learn best by exploring, building, creating, and experimenting through purposeful play.

To guide their natural curiosity, our program incorporates two research-backed curricula aligned with Colorado Department of Education standards:

Creative Curriculum: An evidence-based approach that fosters curiosity, exploration, and hands-on learning tailored to your child’s individual developmental needs.
Second Step: A social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum that supports growing hearts and minds by helping children build confidence, regulate emotions, practice empathy, and form lasting friendships.

Outdoor Play: We go outside twice daily for a total of one hour, weather permitting. Please send your child in weather-appropriate clothing and playground-safe, closed-toe shoes suitable for wood chips (no flip-flops or Crocs).

Snacks: We have one afternoon snack daily. Please send a quick, easy-to-open snack clearly labeled with your child’s name. Snacks must be separate from lunch boxes and cannot require refrigeration. We are unable to provide snacks if forgotten.

Lunch (11:15 AM – 11:45 AM): Preschoolers eat in the cafeteria.

School Lunch: Free hot lunch is available daily. Please mark on the sign-in sheet each morning if your child needs a school lunch.
Home Lunch: Pack lunch and a separate lunch drink (distinct from their daily water bottle) in a labeled lunch box. State law requires an ice pack inside all home lunch boxes.
Dietary Restrictions: Please formally notify the cafeteria staff of any severe allergies or dietary restrictions.

Nap/Rest Time: Students have a daily 45-minute rest period on individual cots. All children are required to rest quietly on their cots during this time. Bedding is sent home every Friday to be laundered and returned on Monday.

Pick-Up Procedures (2:45 PM): Pick-up takes place on the south side of the building (the same as drop-off). Please arrive a few minutes before 2:45 PM.

Sign your child out while waiting outside. Doors open promptly at 2:45 PM.
Have your photo ID ready. We will check IDs until we get to know all families.
Authorized Pickups: We can only release students to individuals officially listed in Jeffco Connect. Notify the office and teacher in advance of any pickup changes.
Late Fees: Coronado Preschool does not offer delayed pickup or aftercare. Jeffco Public Schools charges a late fee for delayed pickups.

Playground Use After Dismissal: Families are welcome to use the playground after dismissal. Please note there is no staff supervision after school. If your child needs the restroom while playing, please use the main entrance to access the public hallway restroom.

Illness Policy: Please help us keep our classroom healthy and safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Please review the official How Sick is Too Sick guideline followed by Jeffco to determine when your child must stay home.
Reporting Absences: If your child will be absent due to illness or personal reasons, please report it by calling the attendance line or emailing us by 8:30 AM.

Birthday Celebrations: We love making your child feel special on their birthday! If you would like to send something in, please send non-food trinkets (such as small toys or individual slime packs). In accordance with the Jeffco Healthy Schools initiative, no sweet treats are permitted.

Field Trips: Due to state regulations requiring specialized 5-point harness seating on buses for young children, we do not take bused field trips. However, we look forward to planning joint family activities and special events throughout the year!

Volunteering: We love classroom volunteers! If you would like to assist in the classroom, please email us with your day and time availability, along with the types of activities you enjoy most (such as helping with projects, reading with students, preparing materials, coordinating a holiday party, etc.).

Emergency Contacts & Medical Needs: Please keep all phone numbers, emails and emergency contacts updated in Jeffco Connect.

Medical Action Plans: If your child has severe allergies, asthma, or medical conditions, signed action plans and medications (EpiPens, inhalers) must be submitted directly to the school nurse prior to the first day of school.

Potty Training Expectations: While staff do not potty train students in the classroom, we fully support your efforts at home. If accidents happen, we will help/guide your child to change while helping them build important self-help skills for independence. Please keep us updated on your child’s progress!

Weather Delays & Closures: Coronado Preschool follows all Jeffco Public Schools weather closures and schedule delays.

Communication: Email is the best way to reach us. We strive to respond to all emails within 24 hours. While we are happy to catch up briefly at dismissal, we cannot answer phone calls during class hours. Important updates will always be shared via email and classroom newsletters.
