A thousand years have passed
Yet I know
We have moved mountains
Waited, wrapped in thick layers of fog
On sleepy Monday mornings
Until subway nine arrived

We dreamt lace-trimmed dreams
Of fairies with golden wings

Suffered under a boulder of pain
When disappointment
– a freezing sleet –
Fell upon lives already wrapped in gray

But every step we take
Still carries the sweetness of memory
Sunshine and golden joy
Notebooks, lockers, crowded hallways
Lighthearted laughter

The aching desire to grow up
At all costs, through smile or grief
The promise of being swept off our feet
By waves of epic love
The passionate hug of success
To show the world we’ve made it

But every single moment
Whomever we have become
Carries you within us`
Fibers of our being
Every thought, principle, smile
And choice we make

You are embedded in us
Molten into our lives
Like rich soil and warm summer rain
Nourishing the forest’s green

Like the mystical depths of earth
Shaping a diamond in the dark
Or eons pressing rock
Into gemstone veins

And how in every violet
There lives the blue

You are a part of each breath we take
The touch of your soul
Is a gift
Forever
