Dear Preschool Families,

We are thrilled to share that our introduction to the Water unit was a wonderful success! The children dove right into exploring the fascinating world of water, and we witnessed their curiosity and excitement as they discovered its basic properties. We observed them learning about:

  • How water feels (wet, slippery, cool).
  • How water moves (pouring, splashing, flowing).
  • The concept of water as a liquid.

Seeing their little hands and minds engaged in these foundational experiences was delightful. The children also enriched their vocabulary with important new words, such as transparent, clear, liquid, moist, lukewarm, room temperature, sink, faucet, and rinse.

Now that we’ve established a basic understanding of water, we’re ready to embark on the next exciting phase of our Water unit: exploring water in action.

Next week, we will explore the many ways we use water daily. We will be focusing on:

  • Water for Cooking: We’ll demonstrate and participate in simple cooking activities that involve water, such as making “soup” with play ingredients, or observing how water is used to prepare meals.
  • Water for Creating: We’ll explore the creative potential of water through activities like watercolor painting, water-based sensory play, and creating water-based art.
  • Water for Cleaning: We’ll discuss how water helps us keep clean, and engage in activities like washing toys or pretend dishes.
  • Water for Growing: We will learn how water helps plants grow, and perhaps even plant a small seed and watch it grow.
  • Water for Fun: We will continue to explore water through play, water tables, and other fun activities.

We believe these hands-on experiences will help your children understand the importance of water and its diverse applications. We encourage you to reinforce these concepts at home by:

  • Talking about how you use water throughout the day.
  • Involving your child in simple water-related tasks, like watering plants or washing vegetables.
  • Reading books about water and its uses.

We are excited about this next stage of our Water unit and look forward to sharing our discoveries with you. As always, please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or comments.

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Annie
