Sometimes
The people we love
Leave
With parkas rustling
In the wind
Their scent lingering
In the air
Long after
They are gone
Like candlelight
Fading into darkness
Seeds of marigold
Carried by the wind
Or the golden leaves
Of tall aspens trembling
In the October breeze
Falling to the ground
Swirling
The ones special
To our hearts
Sometimes slip away
Without goodbye
Leaving us anchored
To the floorboards
Counting the weight of
What ifs and maybes
With no strength
To climb the tower
Of whys
But sometimes
When we the least expect it
They cheer us up
With long conversations
About moments past
Their eyes lit up
Lifting the morning fog
From our valleys on
Hopeless Tuesdays
Holding our hands
Through the silent
Battles we fight alone
As if they never truly left
And perhaps
They never did
