Yard sale season is here:
Let’s get rid of ice skates
Used skis, the rusty saw too
An unopened box –
– Bone china plates
We have costume jewelry
In a 5-pack: just a dollar
You can take our vases free
It’s time for new breaths
The sun is shining
Let’s sweep all nooks
Fresh and clean
Dusting shelves off cobwebs
In a sudden cleaning spree
Breathing new air
In the making still
Wait, what is this
Old stuff still doing here
I thought we got rid of it
On a sunny June day
Or was it August –
I can’t recall, how strange
I swore we took it to the curbside
And now it’s taking up
Precious space again
We don’t need it:
Free to a good home
I lend you a hand to
Carry it away
If only we could have a
Yard sale for all our
Grudges, worries, pains
The ones that lie in
Unopened boxes still
Give them away and
And offer them to someone:
Buy one, take away ten free
Just please don’t make me
Remember why
I kept them in the first place
Letting them inhabit
A whole room of me
All these years
