The Week of 9/30

Dear Families,

Another week has passed, and I’ve observed a remarkable growth in your adorable preschoolers’ interest in literacy. They are now eager to create their own stories, writing letter-like markings or actual letters to express their thoughts and ideas. Ms. Nicole has been instrumental in guiding them through this journey, and their pride in sharing their work with the class is heartwarming. They ‘read’ their stories to their friends and then place them on the bookshelf for everyone to enjoy. It’s a joy to see their literacy skills blossoming!

This week, we’ve introduced balls—what they look and are for, and how we use them with a purpose. The children also enjoyed kicking a soccer ball around every day this week. They even wrote an adorable thank you note to Mr. Stembaugh, our physical education teacher, for letting us borrow a pair of soccer goals! Well, let me tell you, we have some future Messis or Ronaldos in our midst!

Next week, we have an exciting lineup of activities planned. We’ll continue our exploration of balls, encouraging students to ask questions and make observations. From measuring circumference to dissecting a ball, it will be a week filled with fun and learning. We can’t wait to share these experiences with your little ones, and we’re sure they’ll be just as excited as we are!

We’ll have our first cooking lesson next week – thank you, Deepa, for volunteering to lead a “cooking” activity with preschoolers. They will make mango lassi, and Deepa will also tell them why this drink is very special to their family. Please consider signing up for an upcoming cooking “session” with preschoolers – we’ll have one of these each month, and the big idea is to help young children develop an understanding of measuring, mixing, sorting, serving, etc., while also sharing a “meal” together they can be proud of! In other words, there is no lobster bisque yet; just something children can help prepare. 🙂

We are also excited about our field trip to the Children’s Museum on October 16th. This trip is designed to enrich our Balls unit and will be fun and educational for our preschoolers. If you haven’t returned the field trip permission slip yet, please do so next Monday so we can prepare for this engaging experience! Volunteers are welcome—let us know if you are interested in joining.

As the fall days are sneaking up on us, it’s also time to consider our upcoming conferences. These conferences allow us to discuss how your child is doing in preschool. Please sign up here for one 15-minute spot on the 15th or 16th of October (the day of our field trip).

Lunchtime is going really well for most students—they are doing extraordinarily and meeting cafeteria expectations! We couldn’t have done it without your support. Thank you for helping us keep our student group safe by not packing allergens for lunch or snacks, as we have a student allergic to cashews and pistachios. Your thoughtful kindness is greatly appreciated and makes a significant difference in our community!

This is all for now – enjoy the beautiful weekend,

Annie
