Dear Families,
I hope you are enjoying the last warm rays of the sun before the cooler fall days arrive.
We’ve been having tons of fun in preschool as we reinforce expectations and routines and build a culture of belonging in the preschool classroom. It’s our priority to make every single student feel welcome, cared about, loved, and made to feel that they are an integral part of our class community—a community of youngest learners who make safe and good choices and are respectful, kind, and welcoming of everyone around them.
Next week, we’ll embark on an exciting journey with our first Creative Curriculum unit, ‘Balls ‘. This unit is not just about balls – it’s about the sheer joy of learning through play! We’ll explore how balls work, what they look like, what’s inside of them, how high they bounce and how we might use them. We’ll compare and contrast different balls and have a blast along the way. As we learn about balls, we’ll also learn concepts and skills in literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts and technology. We’ll use thinking skills to investigate, ask questions, solve problems, make predictions and test our ideas. It’s going to be a thrilling adventure!
We’d like your help to assemble a collection of balls for the children to investigate. We will need many different types of balls. Here is a list of suggestions, but you may also send in balls that are not on the list (your creativity is more than welcome): baseball, basketball, beach ball, bowling ball, crystal ball, soccer ball, doggie ball, football, golf ball, kickball, table tennis ball, pool ball, soccer ball, a ball pit, etc. We also welcome books about balls – or games that depend heavily on balls. We will take good care of them so we can return them to you at the end of the study. We will also need corrugated/flexible gutter tubes or corrugated/flexible dryer exhaust duct hoses, long, cardboard carpet tubes, concrete form tubes, and aluminum foil. You will find a bin outside next to the lunch wagon beginning next week – thank you so much for your support.
Starting in October, we’ll also introduce a fun and educational monthly cooking experience for our preschoolers. We’re seeking Chefs who can prepare and lead these delightful sessions! The dishes, like cinnamon apples, Jell-o, and a fruit salad, will be simple and child-friendly. We’re also open to your creative ideas and look forward to the students’ excitement in trying snacks from different cultures. You’ll work with a small group of students simultaneously (for about 10-15 minutes each).
When you sign up, you’ll also be responsible for providing all ingredients – please remember that we have a pistachio and cashew allergy in our classroom. You can sign up here.
Please also note that a permission slip was sent home on Thursday in your child’s folder regarding an upcoming field trip to the Children’s Museum. This field trip is a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn and explore outside the classroom. The date is October 16th, 2024 and we are excited for our field trip volunteers as well! Your support and involvement in these experiences are invaluable to us and will greatly enhance your child’s learning journey.
PTA, or Parent-Teacher Association, is a crucial part of Coronado, and we thank our dedicated team for supporting us. You should consider linking your King Soopers or American Furniture Warehouse purchases to help us earn cash rewards we can use to benefit the students at Coronado Elementary. Visit the Coronado PTA site for additional information.
Enjoy the first fall weekend,
Annie
