Dear Families,
We can’t believe it’s already Labor Day weekend! Preschoolers had a busy, fun week with many activities, building friendships, and getting to know their new classroom “home” at Coronado! We have discussed and explored safe ways to play and created meaningful new agreements by which they will function. We have narrowed these down to the following three “rules”:
- Listen
- Try
- Care
Please support our efforts by talking to your child about why it is essential to listen to grownups and their friends making suggestions and corrections, asking questions, posing requests, and responding to those with a positive and willing attitude. We also encourage little ones to try new things, even when they might seem complex and challenging at first – such as riding a bike, drawing a picture, or trying a new food they haven’t had before. Caring refers to approaching others with respect and kindness and keeping individual differences, attitudes, interests, and personalities in mind.
We will continue building upon these structures next week. We encourage you to talk to your preschooler about what it means to always try our best and display a friendly, kind attitude in everyday interactions. Your involvement is crucial in reinforcing these values at home, and we value our partnership in your child’s education.
Today you’ll also receive your child’s beginning of the school year assessment data. Please note that no expectations are established for these questions – we are simply using the data to inform and guide our teaching practices over the next few months. Prompts left blank refer to tasks administered to 4-year-olds only. Our efforts are focused on teaching students all the skills they will need to effectively meet all preschool expectations before entering kindergarten. You can rest assured that we are committed to your child’s development and success.
A few important reminders:
- Please remember that no school is on Monday, September 2nd (Labor Day).
- Birthday Celebrations in Preschool: we will celebrate each student’s birthday during the week of their actual birthday by treating them extra special and letting them paint a unique Birthday Painting that will decorate our wall for the rest of the school year. Children will take this painting home on the last day of school.
While we are not allowed to hand out birthday treats in the classroom, you are welcome to send in small trinkets for every preschool student or to hand out your own treats in the afternoon after pickup. Please keep in mind the guidelines of Jeffco’s Healthy Schools expectations, which include restrictions on sugar content, and also be conscious about the pistachio and cashew allergies we have in our classroom.
- Student lunches at Coronado: While your preschooler might continue bringing lunches to school, consider taking advantage of the free school lunch provided. Either way you choose, please talk to your child about what lunchtime will look like for them on a daily basis. We also ask you to let us know what lunch your student will receive each day by helping them mark hot or cold lunches at the external door.
Thank you for all your support! Enjoy the long weekend with your adorable little ones. 🙂
Kind regards,
Annie
