The Week of 9/15

Dear Wonderful Families,

What a fantastic week we’ve had! It’s been so rewarding to see the children truly settling into our classroom rhythm. We’ve noticed them internalizing our routines and expectations with such confidence—from knowing when it’s time to gather on the rug for Large Group to helping to clean up after Choice Time. This ability to anticipate and participate in our daily flow shows just how much they feel at home here, and it’s a huge step in their development!

While we are still learning how to wash hands effectively, we’ve noticed that it can be a real challenge for them to use just one pump of the sweet-smelling soap and one towel to dry their hands, as we try to be mindful of the environment around us. Our lines are getting more and more straight, though, as we head to the playground. We now know that we can’t just do whatever we feel like in the classroom (such as eating whenever we get hungry), and that there is a time and place for everything – including playing, reading books, and listening to a speaker with a focused body. You might hear your child humming a familiar tune at times – it’s a song we use to teach them demonstrate an attentive body with their eyes on the speaker, listening ears, sitting quietly with legs crossed on the rug:

Eyes are watching,
Ears are listening,
Voices quiet, body calm!
This is how we listen,
This is how we listen
At preschool.

Next week, we are excited to expand on our theme of community by introducing the children to some of the other people who make our school a special place. We’ll be inviting different staff members, such as our principal. Mrs. Brown, the facilities manager, Ms. Karina, and others will visit and talk about the job they do here at Coronado. Our goal is to help the children recognize that our class is part of a much larger school family, and that everyone plays an important role in making our community safe and fun.

Our Read-A-Thon

The 2025 Coronado Read-A-Thon (our one and only fundraiser this year) kicks off next Thursday, September 18th, and runs through Friday, October 3rd. You will find a flyer in your child’s take-home folder this week with information on how to register and all of the amazing prizes we are giving away. If you aren’t able to scan the QR code on the flyer, please register or re-login to your parent dashboard and complete your child’s student webpage at getmovinfundhub.com. The Coronado School Identifier is 64ecc2649f4c7. If we can get 75% of our class registered by Monday, September 22nd, we will win a class popsicle party! Thanks SO much for helping us make this a huge success this year!

No School for Students on 09/19

A quick reminder: This upcoming Friday, September 19th, is a Teacher Workday, so there will be no school for students. We’ll see everyone back in the classroom bright and early on Monday morning.

Thank you for your support. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Warmly,

The Preschool Team
