Dear Preschool Families,
Happy Friday! We had a fantastic week exploring all the wonderful ways we use water. From splashing and pouring to washing and watering, our little learners discovered how essential and fun water can be. We explored how water helps us clean, grow plants, and even play!
It was a week filled with giggles, learning, and a bit of delightful (both real and pretend) splashing. I am sure you’ve noticed how much your children’s swimming skills have improved recently—all because they’ve been busy swimming in our amazing Preschool Lake here in the classroom. 🙂 We saw some amazing teamwork during water play and heard some very insightful observations about how water moves and behaves. Children also had a fun “cooking lesson” on Friday, during which students had the choice to make delicious flavored water or lemonade. They decorated their cups, counted and mixed – and then enjoyed their special beverage. It was a delight to watch them gulp it down! 🙂 We’ve learned about perseverance (our April Character Trait) and talked about what it means to persevere in our choices and actions.
We took advantage of the snowy weather this week: preschoolers were thrilled to experiment to see if snow contains water. Our hypothesis was confirmed: the snow we brought in has turned into (yellowish – yes, yellowish) water over three hours. Students were super excited to conclude that they would not eat snow anymore. 🙂
Next week, we’ll continue our water exploration, but with a twist! We’ll be diving into the fascinating world of how water can change. Get ready for some icy adventures as we investigate:
- Freezing: We will explore how water transforms into solid ice in the freezer and discuss the concept of temperature change.
- Melting: We will explore how ice changes back into liquid water when exposed to warmer temperatures.
- Evaporation: We will conduct a simple experiment about how water disappears and becomes vapor.
We’ll be conducting more fun experiments and activities that will help us understand these concepts hands-on and engagingly. Our new vocabulary includes important words like evaporate, experiment, hypothesis, freeze, solid, melt, ice cube tray, freezer, thaw, and condensation. Please send your child with an extra set of clothes, as we might get a little wet during our investigations!
We are so excited to see what discoveries we make together next week. Have a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday!
Warmly,
Annie
