The Week of 4/28

Dear Preschool Families,

We hope this weekly update finds you well!

We had a truly wonderful week exploring the fascinating world of water with your children. Our little learners dove deep into the differences between lakes and oceans, discovering the unique characteristics of each. We talked about what a lake looks like, with a special focus on Chatfield Lake! We explored the oceans and located them on the globe. Students had a lot of fun learning about new “fancy” words, such as “Pacific Ocean” and “Atlantic Ocean”… Of course, we also had to address the animals living in the deep – your little ones might even ask if you could take a special trip to the Denver Aquarium to take a closer look at the amazing ocean creatures (Nemo and Dory are a must, of course). It was a joy to witness their curiosity and enthusiasm as they absorbed so much about the concept of water. This week marked the delightful conclusion of our unit, and we are so proud of all the discoveries your children made!

Now, get ready to get moving! Next week, we’ll dive into a new and exciting unit all about Exercise! We will explore the many fun and engaging ways to exercise our bodies. From jumping and running to stretching and dancing, we’ll discover how movement can be a joyful part of our day. We will also be learning about why exercise is so good for us. We’ll talk about how it helps our hearts stay strong, our muscles grow, and how being active can even make us feel happier and more energetic. As we explore the topic next week, we will also pay special attention to what kind of exercise children like to do both indoors and outdoors.

We are also looking for material donations and would LOVE it if you could let us borrow your child’s favorite exercise tool or toy. This could be a hula hoop, a yoga mat, a child-sized treadmill, or any other equipment a child could also use at school and teach other children how to use. Please send the item in on Monday, April 28th. We will return this item at the end of our unit. We would also love to have a skeleton (a good reason to sort through your Halloween decorations in April, haha!) We can use the skeleton to understand the human body better. No candy corn or pumpkins are needed, though 🙂

Please mark your calendars for our upcoming Flex Testing Days on Friday, May 2nd, and Monday, May 5th. On these two days, there will be no regular preschool classes. Instead, each student will have a scheduled one-on-one appointment with their teacher for their individual flex testing. The SignUp Genius was already sent out last week – thank you to all who signed up. Please ensure you arrive promptly at your designated time. This individualized time allows us to connect with each child and assess their progress in a focused setting, and will assess their progress in the areas of math and literacy development. I will share the data with you as soon as I can.

Field Day is scheduled for May 9, 2025, from 1:00 to 2:30 PM. Again, please remember to dress your child in comfortable clothes and shoes that they can easily move around in. You’re welcome to take your child for lunch, but please ensure they return by 11:45 AM (before Rest Time) or 12:45 PM. We’d absolutely love for you to join in the fun too! And if it works for your schedule, you’re welcome to sign your child out with you after Field Day wraps up. We can’t wait to see you there!

We look forward to a week filled with active learning and exploring the wonderful benefits of exercise with your children. As always, thank you for your continued support in your child’s learning journey.

Enjoy the beautiful days of spring,

Annie
