The Week of 4/14

Dear Preschool Families,

We had such a fun and fascinating week exploring the wonderful world of water! Your little ones were amazing scientists this week as we conducted a super simple, yet super interesting, experiment: watching what happens to water when it’s left in an open container versus a closed one. It was just fantastic to see their curious minds at work, making predictions and observing as the water magically disappeared from the open container over a few days – which helped them understand the concept of evaporation through hands-on experience. We’ve also observed how water droplets formed on the lid as the water was “trying to” evaporate – this is a simple experience you can also invite them to recreate at home!

Playing with water didn’t stop there. Using Elsa’s special power to freeze things, we’ve also turned water into ice (we didn’t sing “Let it Go” though, although it was really tempting, haha!). Children learned about the concepts of liquid vs. solid. We’ve explored how water can turn into ice, introducing the idea of freezing. The looks on their faces as the liquid transformed into a solid were just priceless! So next time you’d like a few extra ice cubes for your lemonade, just ask them all they know about freezing and melting – I am sure they will be super excited to shine! 🙂 We’ve explored how water can turn into ice, introducing the idea of freezing. The looks on their faces as the liquid transformed into a solid were just priceless!

Get ready for another week of exciting discoveries! Next week, we’ll explore water’s incredibly important role in our environment. We’ll learn all about how water helps the plants right here in our neighborhood grow big and strong, and we’ll also take a peek at how water is used in different and exciting places around the world. If you have any photos or pictures about bodies of water (river, lake, ocean, etc.), feel free to send them in so we can examine and notice how water and its environment can look so very different – think Arctic Ocean vs. Hawaii, for example… We’ll also be talking about why saving water (water conservation) is important and why having clean water is something to treasure.

We are just bursting with pride at the children’s enthusiasm and genuine eagerness to learn and explore new things. Thank you, as always, for your amazing support in their learning adventures.

Have a sunny weekend filled with joy,

Annie
