Dear Families,
It’s been a bright week at our preschool, filled with exciting activities our children thoroughly enjoyed. One of the highlights was a make-believe journey where our little ones boarded an imaginary airplane and had the unique opportunity to interact with a real-life flight attendant! We extend our heartfelt thanks to Ms. Sue and Ms. Olga for orchestrating this wonderful adventure. We’re delighted to see how much fun our preschoolers had!
In addition to “traveling to Paris,” preschoolers had an opportunity to ask questions from our special visitor, Ms. Karina, our Facilities Manager at Coronado. Some questions included fun wonderings, such as “How do you reach the top of the dumpster?” and others, but Ms. Karina did an amazing job answering the questions that could never seem to end! 🙂 We thanked her with beautiful custom-made cards, fresh from the Preschool Printing Press!
We’ve discussed how to recognize what items are from and introduced the concept of recycling. Next week, we will continue to explore ways trash can affect our world and why it’s important to take action. We will explore how trash can be reduced and what we can do already at preschool! This concept can easily carry over to your home environment, too—I am sure your little ones will enjoy sorting out items that can be recycled instead of going in the trash.
We are still collecting various items and pictures related to trash and recycling. These include toys related to trash/recycling (toy trash cans, garbage trucks, etc.), paper towel rolls, egg cartons, magazines/newspapers, empty plastic or paper food containers (seasonings, yogurt, etc.), plastic plates, cups, and bowls, old T-shirts, seed packets, and soil. Thank you to the families who provided wet wipes and soap for us—your support is appreciated.
We plan to close our unit the week before spring break with an inspiring activity. Children will decorate a recycled bookcase, which will also serve as a tribute to Coronado’s first group of preschools as part of the main building! We will be working on the bookcase on March 11th and 12th and are planning on decorating the bookcase with images of your child’s favorite book and fingerprint art. Please send a 3×2 inch photo of your child’s favorite book cover in color next Monday (3/3 – do not decorate this image at home). We will then formally open the bookcase on the 14th to serve as a “Take a Book-Leave a Book” Little Library for books all Coronado students can recycle and exchange. We’d love to have you at the ribbon-cutting ceremony in the classroom on 3/14 at 2 pm! 🙂
Health Reminders:
With the ever-changing weather this time of year, many children seem to have sniffles (or more). Jeffco’s health guidance requires families to keep children home for 24 hours after a fever has been resolved (without fever-reducing medications), 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting and/or diarrhea, and 48 hours after the last episode of vomiting and/or diarrhea in case of norovirus. You can also find information regarding Jeffco Public Schools’ health protocols here.
Team Emily Fundraiser:
At Coronado Elementary, we are a FAMILY, and no one fights alone! We are asking for your help to raise money for Emily Hatch as she battles through this breast cancer journey. During the week of March 3rd – 7th, we will be hosting multiple fundraising events to help Emily with financial assistance.
During the week of March 3rd—7th, we will ask students to bring in cash donations. Each student who brings in a cash donation will receive a pink ribbon to write their name on. We will hang the ribbons around the school. The class with the most donations will receive a pizza party. The second-place class will receive a cupcake party. The third-place class will receive an extra recess. All parties will take place the week after spring break and have generously been donated by Coronado’s parents.
On March 6th and 7th, from 2:30-3:30 p.m., we will have a bake sale. We will be outside by the front doors (weather permitting) or inside by the front office. All items will be $2 or $10. Cash only. Please help make this a successful fundraiser by donating some back goods. Please have all items individually packaged for this bake sale. Items can be dropped off in the front office Wednesday afternoon or Thursday before 2 p.m.

We also ask for gift cards to King Soopers, Target, Walmart, any restaurant, DoorDash, Uber Eats, or GrubHub. Gift cards can be dropped off with Andrea in the front office anytime before 3 p.m. on March 7th. Coronado families generously sponsor these events.
Coronado Science Fair
Finally, this Friday, 2/28, is the deadline to register for the Coronado Science Fair (coming up on 4/2). Preschoolers are also welcome! All students who register will receive a free science t-shirt and prize bag and an opportunity to show off their science project to the judges for a chance to win a trophy! This is a great opportunity for our students to showcase their knowledge and creativity, and we’re excited to see what they come up with.
To register, send a photo of the completed form attached to Heather McKay (hangel123@gmail.com or 303-549-3057). The Science Fair is always such a fun day for the school—don’t miss an opportunity to participate!
Thank you so much for your support!
Have a sunny weekend,
Annie
