Dear Families,
Happy Friday! It has been a busy and productive week in our classroom.
Thank You for Attending Conferences
First, we want to say a heartfelt thank you for taking the time to meet with us for conferences this week! We truly value these opportunities to partner with you, celebrate your child’s growth, and set goals for the rest of the school year. It was wonderful connecting with you all.
A World of Celebrations
We have had such fun learning about so many different holidays this week! The children enjoyed exploring traditions related to Presidents’ Day, Mardi Gras, the Vietnamese and Chinese New Year, and Ramadan. What a rare treat to have so many special days align in a single week! It was beautiful to witness the children’s curiosity as we explored how different communities celebrate.
A Special Visit: We want to send a huge “Thank You” to Cong and Uyen Bui for visiting our classroom to tell us all about the Vietnamese New Year. The children were absolutely captivated! They loved looking at the beautiful photos and exploring the special red envelopes and “Lucky Money” Cong and Uyen brought in to share. It made our week truly special, and we loved the way they brought our holiday learning to life.
Next Week: The Study of Wheels
Next week, we are rolling right along with our current unit! We will be launching Investigation 2: How do wheels move? from the Creative Curriculum.
While our first week focused on finding wheels, this week we are becoming physicists and engineers. We will be setting up ramp experiments and checking our toy vehicles to see how they work.
Key concepts and questions we will explore:
- Rolling vs. Sliding: We will test different objects to see which ones roll and which ones slide, asking, “What shape does a wheel need to be?”
- Mechanics (Axles): We will look closely at the bottoms of our cars and wagons to investigate the rod that connects the wheels (the axle) and helps them spin.
- Motion & Surfaces: We will experiment with friction by rolling wheels over smooth floors versus fuzzy rugs to answer: “What makes wheels move faster or slower?”
Have a relaxing weekend!
Best regards,
The Preschool Team
