The Week of 2/17

Dear Preschool Families!

What a wonderful week we have had! We are writing to you on a high note after a busy few days of learning and celebration. Here are your updates for the upcoming long weekend and the week ahead.

Launching the Wheels Study

We have officially kicked off our new Creative Curriculum Wheels Study! The children have been very engaged as we began our initial exploration of the topic. We started by creating a web of what the children already know about wheels and what they are curious to find out.

Next Week: Investigation #1 When we return, we will dive into Investigation #1: “What has wheels?” During this investigation, we will be looking for wheels in our school environment, sorting vehicles, and exploring the physical characteristics of wheels (round, rolling, axles). You can support this at home by pointing out different things with wheels (cars, strollers, shopping carts) while you are out and about!

A Sweet Valentine’s Celebration

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to our Valentine’s Day celebration. It was really lovely –  children were absolutely thrilled to exchange cards and explore their valentines. They loved the healthy treats and enjoyed the book! It was heartwarming to see them practicing kindness and gratitude with their friends.

Important Health Reminders

We are currently seeing quite a bit of sickness circulating among the children. As you know, our sweet preschoolers are still mastering the art of hygiene. They are often unsure how to effectively cover a cough or manage a runny nose, and they learn by touching everything (and everyone!). Because of this, germs spread incredibly fast in a preschool setting.

In the classroom, we often see that when children are under the weather, they become clingy, sensitive, and tearful. Usually, they just want the comfort of their own beds and their mommies or daddies. A good rule of thumb: If a child is too tired to play and have fun, they are likely too sick to be at school. If you are unsure, please refer to Jeffco’s “How Sick is Too Sick” document here

How You Can Help at Home We are working hard in the classroom to build good hygiene habits, and we need your help reinforcing them at home! Please practice the following with your child:

  • The “Dracula Cough”: We’ve been practicing this in class! Remind your child to cover their coughs with their elbows (like they are hiding in a vampire cape) rather than their hands.
  • Tissue Etiquette: Please help them practice effectively wiping their noses, immediately throwing the tissue in the trash, and washing their hands right after.

Visiting the School

We have a quick but important reminder regarding school access. If you are coming to the school for any reason other than standard drop-off (8:15 am) or pick-up (2:45 pm), please use the main external door and sign in at the front desk immediately.

We require all visitors to sign in for several critical reasons:

  • Building Security: It helps us maintain a secure environment by knowing exactly who is on campus at all times, even if just for a brief moment.
  • Emergency Safety: In the event of an unexpected scenario, such as a fire drill or evacuation, we must have an accurate list of exactly who is in the building to ensure everyone is accounted for.
  • Focus on Learning: It minimizes classroom interruptions, allowing children to stay focused on their activities.

Calendar Reminder: 4-Day Weekend

Please remember that we have a long weekend ahead of us. There will be no school on:

  • Friday, February 13th
  • Monday, February 16th

We look forward to seeing everyone back in the classroom on Tuesday, February 17th.

Thank you for your partnership in keeping our classroom fun, safe, and healthy. Enjoy the long weekend!

Warmly,

The Preschool Team
