The Week of 11/3

Dear Preschool Families,

What an incredibly SPOOKtacular fun and busy week we’ve had! The classroom was full of focused learning, giggles, and festive spirit. The children transitioned beautifully from intense nature study to our exciting Halloween celebration.

This Week: Exploring the Parts of a Tree

Our central theme this week was transforming into tree detectives to examine the basic parts of a tree. We moved from observation to hands-on art and sensory experiences to truly internalize these new concepts. We started by learning about the main parts: the sturdy roots that anchor the tree, the tall trunk that supports it, the branches that reach up to the sky, and the beautiful leaves that help the tree make food.

To really solidify this knowledge, the children worked together on an exciting collaborative art project to create our very own classroom tree, created leaf prints, and cut out and decorated leaves. They created a large brown trunk and branches, and then used art and creativity to add vibrant fall foliage, making our classroom wall feel super special. This hands-on activity not only reinforced the vocabulary but also nurtured their teamwork and fine motor skills, resulting in a beautiful piece of nature we can all enjoy!

Looking Ahead: The Tree Life Cycle

Next week, we are moving from the structure of the tree to its life cycle. We will follow the journey of the smallest part of the tree: the seed!

Our activities will be hands-on and developmentally appropriate, covering topics like:

  • Seeds to Saplings: Understanding that every enormous tree started as a tiny seed, cone, or acorn.
  • The Seasons of a Tree: Discussing how trees adapt throughout the year, from shedding leaves in fall to creating buds in spring.
  • Tree Habitats: Learning about the animals (birds, squirrels, insects) that call trees home.
  • What Trees Give Us: Exploring how trees provide us with oxygen, shade, and materials like wood and paper.

We’re excited to see the connections they make between this week’s lesson and next week’s theme of growth and change!

Halloween Celebration Success!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! The Halloween Parade and Party today was a monumental success thanks to the incredible effort and generosity of our families.

The children absolutely loved the yummy food and fun activities, and shone during the parade, marching and showing off their amazing costumes. Your dedication to volunteering truly made the event super fun for the children. Specifically, the games were a huge hit:

  • Zombie Eye Toss: The children practiced their gross motor skills by tossing “eyeballs” into cups. Thank you, Ms. Kylie, for creating and managing this fun activity!
  • Read Alouds: The books were a lot of fun, and children truly enjoyed the characters, the plot, and Mr. Harry’s reading skills!
  • Craft, Mummy Wrap, and Pumpkin Toss: Preschoolers had a lot of fun engaging in the fun craft ideas provided! Thank you, Ms. Chelsy, for your help with these projects!

Your involvement ensures that these special days become wonderful, lasting memories for our little ones. We appreciate your time, donations, and boundless enthusiasm!

Cold Weather Clothing

We kindly ask that you label all of your child’s winter gear clearly. With so many similar coats, gloves, and hats in the classroom, a name label is the only way we can ensure every item returns home with the right owner! Please label all coats, jackets, hats, scarves, gloves, and mittens, ideally on the interior tag or collar.

One of our biggest goals is to encourage your child’s self-help skills. Transitioning in and out of cold-weather clothing takes time, but by practicing these skills at home, your child can gain incredible independence and get outside to play faster.

Coronado Book Fair

Please come visit the fair to find a variety of fun, interesting, and award-winning books for children.  We depend on proceeds from the book fair to purchase new books for our school library.
