Dear Parents and Guardians,
Kindergarteners are very excited about Thanksgiving and the upcoming holiday season in general! They’ve enjoyed creating “Gratitude Turkeys” with their 5th grade buddies and are looking forward to the last week of school before Thanksgiving break.
Next week we will concentrate on active listening and following directions. In reading, we will make/check predictions, reinforce story elements (characters, setting, events) and identify the topic/central idea. Our foundational skills will address identifying/isolating initial sounds, recognizing alliteration, sorting words and reading consonants r and f. You may have noticed little books going home in students’ Friday folders – please use these to help your child practice reading at home.
In math we will continue manipulating/visualizing teen numbers while making groups with numbers up to 10.
Kindergarten will concentrate on the past vs. present next week. We will look at objects from the past and compare those with the ones we now know (candle vs. lamp, broom vs. vacuum cleaner; ink/inkwell vs. pen, etc.). In preparation for learning about timelines, we are also asking you to help your child think of a memory when they were a baby, a toddler and now from kindergarten. Include one (1) photo for each memory and secure it on the timeline sent home in his/her Friday Folder. This activity needs to be completed by Wednesday, November 30th, 2022 (the Wednesday after Thanksgiving break). We will return all photos when the unit is over. Thank you for your collaboration!
Our social-emotional learning next week will concentrate on kindness. With adult support, students will be able to give at least one example of a kind act.

Weekly Tip:
Share a family heirloom or an object from a long time ago, like great grandpa’s watch or Auntie Pam’s fancy porcelain cup (hands off, kindergarten!). Talk about what makes these objects special.
