The Week of 10/13

Dear Preschool Families,

I hope this note finds you well!

Our Week with Balls: Exploring Shape and Movement

We had a wonderful and highly active week exploring the fascinating world of balls! The children were truly engaged in our unit of study. We spent time learning about what balls look like (spheres of all colors and sizes) and their different textures—some are smooth, some bumpy, some soft, and some hard.

The biggest hit, perhaps, was our investigation into movement. We experimented with ramps, discovering how balls gain speed as they roll down and how much effort it takes to push or roll them up a ramp. We also worked on our gross motor skills by practicing how to bounce different types of balls. The joy and concentration on their faces as they tried to master the bounce were fantastic!

Looking Ahead: Ball Games and Celebration!

Next week, we’ll build on our learning by exploring various ball games we can play, which will help us practice skills like rolling, tossing, and catching.

To celebrate the end of our unit, we are planning a joint activity with the other preschool class on Friday! The children will participate in a fun, shared ball game activity where they can show off everything they’ve learned about balls and how they move. It will be a great chance for the classes to play together. Then we’ll begin our new unit called Trees the following week.

Important Reminders

  • Field Trip Alert: Permission slips are going home today for our upcoming field trip on Tuesday, November 12, to see a performance of “Goodnight Moon!” Please review the details and return the slip as soon as possible.
  • No School: A reminder that there will be no school tomorrow, Friday 10/10, or Monday 10/13 (Fall Break). We look forward to seeing the children back in class on Tuesday!
  • We’ll be sending home a Halloween Sign-Up Genius soon to help us plan a great party for preschoolers. However, we understand that not all families celebrate Halloween. If this holiday does not align with your family’s traditions, please let me know by sending a quick email or note. We’ll be happy to provide an engaging, alternative activity for your child during the party time.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Have a wonderful long weekend!

Warmly,

The Preschool Team
