The Week of 1/20

Dear Families,

We had another exciting week at preschool this week. We learned about many building types and even tested how bricks are held together (yay, Ms. Nicole!). We’ve created an imaginary treasure map and applied our brand-new and shiny map skills to create a map of our school!

Next week, we will continue learning about who builds buildings and what tools are needed to build a structure. We will enrich students’ vocabulary with essential words like plywood, bricks, drywall, collapsed, and sturdy. Students will build important skills by participating in rich conversations, comparing and contrasting, recalling, building on background knowledge to draw conclusions, counting, and subitizing.

Starting Tuesday, January 21st, we will have a new Blue Flag Procedure for preschool only! If you arrive earlier than 8:15 am and it is a Blue Flag Day (blue flag on the flag pole), please:

  1. Enter through the front door of the school.
  2. Go directly to the cafeteria with your child. These days, you may want to take advantage of the free breakfast. 🙂 Please remain in the cafeteria with your child until our starting time at 8:15.
  3. At 8:15, head to the preschool classroom across from the office and sign in your child. We will not open the outside door on Blue Flag Days. I appreciate your understanding.

We have a wonderful family partnership project coming up in just a few weeks. We will create two art installations for our classrooms to celebrate what we have learned in our units, Buildings and Wheels!  We invite families to join us in creating these masterpieces using old CDs and fun materials like pom poms, yarn, paint, stickers, and sequins.  We hope that every family can join us on this day.

What:  A celebration of learning

Who should come?  All family members are invited to co-create our art installations!

When: Thursday, February 13th, from 1:30-2:30 pm

Where: In our classrooms! We will open the garage doors between our rooms, and kids and families will move freely from one room to another to access materials for their artwork.

Please let us know if you can donate old, unwanted CDs. We’d love you to drop those off by Friday, February 7th, at the latest. We would love to have 80 or more (combined between the two classes) so every child can create at least two of them to add to our installation.

We would also like to invite you to a special event: our Starry Night Dance at Coronado Elementary on January 31st from 6-8 p.m.! Tickets are now on sale and are $5 per person. Each person attending the dance must purchase a ticket. Use this link to buy tickets. We look forward to seeing you at the dance!

Also, remember that we have an excellent (and super easy!) opportunity to support our school with additional funding just by shopping at King Soopers and American Furniture Warehouse! Linking your purchases helps earn cash rewards we can use to benefit the students at Coronado Elementary. Visit the Coronado PTA site for additional information.

Stay warm during this freezing, long weekend.

Kindly,

Annie
