Our Year Together

Important Information for a Smooth Start

Below you’ll find essential information about Coronado Preschool. Please read it carefully to help us ensure a safe and successful year for everyone.

Parking

Please use the school parking lot. For everyone’s safety, especially our little learners, please use the designated pedestrian crossing areas when walking through the parking lot.

Free Breakfast for All Jeffco Students!

We’re thrilled to share that free breakfast is available to all Jeffco students, including preschoolers!

  • Breakfast will be served from 8:00 AM – 8:10 AM.
  • Please enter through the door north of the front entrance at 8:00 AM and head to the school cafeteria.
  • After breakfast, exit through the same door and line up outside our classroom.
  • Parents must remain with their children during breakfast and sign them in outside the classroom door.

Drop-Off Procedures

Our doors open for student drop-off at 8:15 am, which is when staff supervision begins. We do not offer a “soft start”, so please plan on staying with your child until that time. The drop-off location is on the south side of the building. When you arrive, you will need to sign in your preschooler using the book on the small metal stand.

Please arrive a few minutes before the start time. When you arrive, we’ll ask for your help with a few things:

  • Sign your child in (this is a state requirement).
  • Help your child place their labeled snack in the snack basket. Snacks need to be separate from lunch boxes, clearly labeled with your child’s name, and should not require refrigeration.
  • On Mondays, please help your child file their Friday folder in its designated spot.
  • On Mondays, return laundered bedding in the bedding bin. This year, bedding should be placed in a 16-quart plastic container with a lid. If you’re still looking, here’s a link to a crib/toddler-sized bedding set that fits our cots [link to bedding set]. Please, no standard/twin-size bedding.

When it’s time to drop off, give your child a quick hug and encourage them to walk into class independently. It’s normal for children to sometimes struggle with separation, and when this happens, a reassuring squeeze and encouraging words from you, followed by our support, will help them transition. Most children settle into their day within a few minutes of entering the classroom.

Sunscreen

Per state requirements, your child must be protected from the sun. Families are responsible for applying sunscreen to their child before dropping them off at preschool. You will need to initial the sign-in/out sheet daily to confirm sunscreen has been applied.

Additional Items in School

  • Please send your child with a labeled water bottle daily (no juice or milk, please).
  • Each day, your child should bring a backpack containing a gallon-sized Ziploc bag with one change of clothes, underwear, and socks.
  • They may also bring a small “lovie” (up to 12 inches) for nap time, which should be kept inside their bedding tote and will stay at school Monday-Friday. All other toys and jewelry should remain at home.
  • Please note: Per Colorado state guidelines, students are not permitted to have hand sanitizer, chapstick, or hand lotion/cream with them in the preschool classroom.
  • If your child regularly requires changing at school, please include a labeled Ziploc bag with a few pull-ups (no diapers) and a pack of wipes in their backpack. Please check this daily. Do not send in a whole bag of pull-ups – we have no space to store those.

Pick-Up Procedures

  • Please arrive a few minutes before 2:45 pm.
  • Sign your child out while you wait.
  • We will open the door at 2:45pm and send your child out to you. Please be prompt and have your ID ready for us to check until we get to know all families.
  • If there’s a change in who will pick up your child, please add that person to Jeffco Connect and notify us in advance.
  • Coronado Preschool does not offer a “soft start.” Our doors open for student drop-off at 8:15 am, which is when staff supervision begins.
  • The drop-off location is on the south side of the building. When you arrive, you will need to sign in your preschooler using the book on the small metal stand. Similarly, for pickup at 2:45 pm, please be at the external door to sign your child out. Please note that we do not offer delayed pickup or aftercare.
  • New this year, Jeffco is implementing a $40 late fee.  Please be sure to pick up your child on time.

Outside Schedule

We enjoy outdoor play twice a day for a total of one hour, weather permitting. Please dress your child in weather-appropriate clothing, including playground-safe closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops or Crocs).

Nap/Rest Time

All preschool children will have a daily 45-minute nap/rest time. Each child will have their own cot with bedding provided from home. Bedding will be sent home each Friday for laundering and should be returned on Monday.

Snacks

We will have one afternoon snack each day. Please provide your child with an easy-to-open, quick-to-eat snack daily. We are unable to provide snacks if they are forgotten. Snacks should be labeled with your child’s name and placed in the snack basket at the beginning of each school day. Remember, it needs to be separate from lunch and cannot require refrigeration.

Lunch

Lunch will be from 11:15 AM – 11:45 AM daily. Preschool students will have designated tables in the school cafeteria. Hot lunch prepared at school is available and FREE for all Jeffco students!

For the first two weeks of school, we kindly ask preschool parents to send lunches from home to help children adjust to our daily schedule. If this presents a problem for your family, please let us know, and we’ll find a solution.

  • Children need a labeled lunch box containing their lunch and a drink. Please send a separate lunch drink (different from their daily water bottle) to help us keep lunches organized.
  • State law requires all lunch boxes to have an ice pack inside – remember to include this.
  • A lunch tote will be near the sign-in/out area each morning; please help your child place their labeled lunch box there.

Sickness
