Newsletter 9/11/26

Dear Preschool Families,

Happy Friday! This week, the big concepts we have been working on included the following:

Creative Curriculum:

  • What are the rules at school, and how have we been following them?
  • How do we use our hands in a safe way and in a way that helps us learn at school?
  • How do we keep our school clean and safe?

Second Step:

  • We have been focusing on healthy listening habits by having eyes watching, ears listening, quiet voices, and calm bodies.
  • We continue to learn each other’s names and are practicing how to communicate our thoughts and feelings in order to play together and solve problems kindly.
  • We also continue to understand and remember our daily schedule and the expectations during each of those times throughout our school day together.

Heggerty Phonemic Awareness:

  • Repeating 2 rhyming words
  • Saying the first sound of words
  • Repeating 2 words then putting them together to make a compound word
  • Saying the last sound in a word
  • Repeating a compound word and then breaking it apart into the two words
  • Saying the first part of a word and then adding the next part of a word to make the new word
  • Saying a whole word and removing the beginning part of the word to see what’s left
    • Note: These concepts will be taught all year long and are included in the assessment for 4-year-olds that came home in your Friday folders.

Next week our big concepts will include:

  • Our Focus Question is “When do things happen at school?”
  • We will be discussing when we get to school, what we do after we wake up in the morning, and what we do when we first get to school. (This will reinforce our morning drop-off protocol as well as becoming more familiar with our daily routines/schedule.)

Important Announcements:

  • Remember that next Friday, 9/18, is Teacher Work Day – no school for students.

Enjoy the weekend!
