We drift across the
Frozen tide
Of an arctic winter
Sailing towards longer days
And amber hugs
Of the life giving sun

Stepping onto the plush
Carpet of celebrations
Along the way
A solemn holiday – a candle lit
The cheer of a birthday toast
Against the frost

Moments sprinkled with
The sea salt of joy
And the hum of life

But when the first rays of
March sunshine arrive
And take a teasing stroll
In a gilded carriage
Upon the azure sky

We uncover our hopes
From the heated blanket
And pack the sterile worries
And our vitamin-dull
Sunless troubles
On the top shelf in the closet
Far beyond our reach

We surrender to the
Year’s blushing,
Flirtiest arrival:
The sudden, radiant
Smile of spring
