Children have shown so much curiosity and excitement as we began to look at the world around us with fresh eyes.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We spent this week acting as building detectives! As part of our investigation, we moved beyond just looking at buildings to truly observing their features.<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Variety:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> We discussed that buildings come in many shapes and sizes (tall skyscrapers, large grocery stores,\u00a0cozy log cabins, family homes, and office buildings.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Features:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> We counted doors and windows, and talked about different parts buildings have: a roof, for example.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Purpose: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The children did a great job identifying that different buildings have different jobs\u2014some are for living in, and some are for working (services) or shopping. We will be focusing on three big ideas:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>What are buildings made of?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> We will explore textures and materials like brick, wood, concrete, and glass.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Who makes buildings?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> We will learn about the different roles on a construction site, from architects who draw the plans to the workers who pour the cement.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>What makes buildings strong?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This is often the favorite part!
